Our Voice - An Untapped Resource

Our voice is one of the most intimate parts of ourselves. The inflection in a sentence or the tone of a word speaks volumes about a person’s state of being. Our voice shows our emotion, reveals our secrets and illuminates our joy.  How we speak and use our voice can show confidence, fear, where we were born, where we grew up.  It is remarkable how much information about ourselves can be learned from our voice and speech.

Just like bodies, voices can be judged as good or bad, pretty or ugly, cute, sexy, sophisticated, annoying. The thing that is distinctly different between our voices and our bodies is that most people don’t think too much about their voice. Professionals such as singers, actors, presenters and teachers certainly do; and any students of those vocations do. But otherwise our voice is usually a huge resource and communicating force of ourselves that we don’t really consider.

This is an interesting reality, don’t you think?

When we instead notice our voice, how it feels when we speak, how we use it in different circumstances, we can discover precious information about ourselves and what state of being we are coming from.  And perhaps even more importantly, we can generate the states of begin that we are after that serve us.

Consider your body posture.  Consider the different ways that you may sit, stand, cross your legs, hold your arms, clench your jaw.  All those postures affect you - your energy, your mood, your mental capacity, even your mood.  They may calm you or make you tense.  They may enliven you or make you tired.

Well our voice has the same capacity and when you are aware of this, your voice can become an incredible vehicle of energy, confidence, purposefulness and joy.
